BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent certainly raised some eyebrows after the brunette beauty “auditioned” for a new presenting gig live on the show.

During Tuesday’s visit (March 5) to the BBC studios, the 52-year-old welcomed viewers back to the morning programme alongside her co-host Jon Kay. The presenting duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines.

This included the sale of Colin Firth's famous white shirt that he wore in the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, the horrific treatment of homelessness in Manchester and the launch of the Celebrity Big Brother. Later on in the show the pair teased an upcoming interview with Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson.

"Ricky Wilson and Simon Rix will turn up today. Yes the Kaiser Chiefs are back with a brand-new album and they will be with us just before nine o'clock this morning.

Her co-star couldn’t help but compliment her on her reporting skills. He joked: “You sounded very Radio 2.” Sally asked: “Did I?” before she teased: “Maybe that’s me auditioning” as they burst into laughter.

It comes after the broadcaster made a cheeky jibe at her co-star when he accidentally slipped up when reporting the news. Before going to an advert break, Jon told viewers: "Stay tuned for more Monday morning news".

It was at this point that Sally quipped: "It's Tuesday, not Monday. It might be Monday for you but it's Tuesday for everyone else." It comes after Jon was notably missing from the show at the start of the week.

The presenter, 54, usually commands the red sofa alongside Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday. But the 54-year-old was nowhere to be seen on Monday (March 4).

Stepping in for the broadcaster was Ben Thompson who joined the brunette beauty on the morning show. Ben announced he would be fronting the show on Sunday evening (March 3). On X, formerly Twitter, a fan shared a photo of Ben and Rachel Burden from Sunday's programme.

One user cheekily penned: "It's OK to watch Breakfast at Tea Time right @BenThompsonTV @rachelburden?!" Ben then reposted the message, writing: "That face… See you tomorrow 0600-0930, BBC One."

Viewers enjoy Ben's presence on the flagship programme as one responded: "Always enjoy your mornings." A second agreed: "See you in the morning bright and breezy" as a third gushed: "Handsome Ben."
